Biography

Dr. P. Sarafis is an Associate Professor at the Department of Nursing, University of Thessaly, with an academic focus on basic research in antimicrobial chemotherapy of hospital-acquired infections. A graduate of the Hellenic Military Nursing Academy and a retired Lieutenant Commander of the Nursing Corps, he has a long-standing military and academic career.

He holds three Master’s degrees in Health Unit Management, Public Health and Crisis Management, and a PhD from the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, completed with a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation.

He conducted postdoctoral research at LMU Munich, Germany, in the care and diagnosis of tropical and neglected diseases, participating in a vaccine study against the H5N1 virus conducted by Novartis. He has taught at several higher education institutions, including the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of the Peloponnese and the Cyprus University of Technology. He is also Coordinator and member of the Adjunct Academic Staff of the Postgraduate Programme “Health Unit Management” at the Hellenic Open University.

He is actively involved in adult education and lifelong learning, serving as a trainer at the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA) and at Vocational Training Centres. He is a member of the scientific committees of Greek and international journals and has significant writing and research activity in areas of professional and scientific interest.
