A Structured Journey from Theory to Real-World Application

The HERO-HEALTH curriculum is designed as a progressive learning journey, moving from foundational knowledge to applied practice and immersive simulation.

Across three semesters, students develop the ability to understand, manage, and respond to complex humanitarian and public health challenges through interdisciplinary learning and real-world training.

Semester 1

Focuses on the fundamental principles of humanitarian action, disaster management, and One Health, providing students with the theoretical and conceptual foundation required to understand complex crises.

Semester 2

Emphasizes systems, policy, and applied crisis management, enabling students to connect theory with practice through interdisciplinary approaches and real-world problem solving.

Semester 3

Dedicated to immersive simulation and research, where students apply their knowledge in realistic crisis scenarios and complete their Master Thesis.

  1. HH1.1_R — Introduction to Inclusive Disaster Management — 6 ECTS
  2. HH1.2_R — Planning, Preparing, and Implementing Humanitarian Assistance in Crises — 6 ECTS
  3. HH1.3_R — Community Resilience and Engagement, Population Wellbeing, and Mental Health Needs in Humanitarian Settings — 6 ECTS

Compulsory Electives — choose 2 of the following 3

  1. HH1.4_E — Biological Hazards, Biosafety, Biosecurity, and Biological Risk Management — 6 ECTS
  2. HH1.5_E — Displacement and Mobility of Populations in Climate Change — 6 ECTS
  3. HH1.6_E — Humanitarian Medicine and Response (Prediction, Prevention, Mitigation, Adaptation and Rebuilding) — 6 ECTS
